Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka - Russia

Elena on the left was our Russian guide, one of the only people that could speak english. On our tour of the country of Petropavlosk, and Yelinov, Elena took us to her mother's (Tamara)summer house called a Dacha ( not sure of spelling)

At Tamara's summer house she fixed us a great pancake snack and tea, we had fresh strawberries from her garden, and honey from the hives to put in the crepe like pancakes

This is the upstairs of the summer house, and our group that was on this tour, Bill, Wayne, Jeff, Kirt, and Elena our guide

This is the typical brick stove, what a great way to cook

The downtown area where most of the people are living, the area we are docked is mostly businesses.

Elena, Jeff, Wayne & Carol in front of the gardens at the summer house,

There was a hot house for growing tomatoes, as the climate is to cold even in the summer

Views from the area of Yelinov

We also went to this resort to swim in the hot springs, there are many hot springs in this area and some resorts have made them into swimming areas. There are also mineral springs, and mud pools, but they were way up in the mountains, and near the volcanoes, and we did not travel there as we did not have the time

These boxes look like our storage sheds at home, and that is what they are here, except they also use them for a garage. The cars are small and just fit inside. They just put them anywhere on any piece of land and use it.

This was at the traditional Russian dinner we had set up for us to try

Kirt, Wayne & Jeff during our tour of the city, this was the best point to see the city from so high up

old leftover military trucks

This Russian church we got to go inside and go up to the bell tower. In Russian churches there are no benches/pews, you stand during the service sometimes 1 to 2 hours. And the nobody is allowed to go behind the doors. Which is where the baptisims are performed.

This Russian Orthodox church has been being built for at least 2 years, and does not look like it will be done too soon

This is the harbor we were in at Petropavlovsk and this long dock is what we had to climb up to get off the boat

At the market you get your eggs on these cardboard trays, and they are not refrigerated, and do not have to be when you take them home.

The local hot dog stand in Russian and good old Coca-Cola in letters we can read

I do not know what this was about but it was weird to see cannons and then this church item

This is one of the old buildings from the USSR days, it still has the old symbol in the stone works

The local drug store

The other harbor in the town as you can see the fog is still lifting. We would have fog alot here.

I think this is a computer store...
