After the eruption the in 1902 30.000 people died because of the governor and the elections being 1 week away, he did not want to evacuate, and did not tell the people of the situation.

This picture tells the story of the British ships, sometime in the 1700's that disguised the tops of their masts as palm trees to save themselves from the French war ships. They hid in Marigot Bay among the palm trees and the French went right by and they were safe.
